Understanding reverse equity

More flexibility from the home you love

A Savannah reverse equity loan is designed for homeowners age 62 and older. It may allow you to convert part of your home’s equity into funds without a required monthly mortgage payment.

Savannah homeowners remain the owners of their homes. You must continue to pay property taxes, homeowners insurance, and maintain the property. The loan becomes due when the last borrower leaves the home, sells it, or does not meet the loan obligations.

For more than 25 years, Samantha Peel has been helping individuals and families navigate some of life's biggest transitions through careers in real estate sales, senior living, and now mortgage lending. Today, as a Mortgage Loan Officer with Mortgage Capital Services, Samantha specializes in helping homeowners age in place by using the equity they've worked so hard to build. Whether it's navigating today's changing economy, planning for retirement, preparing for unexpected expenses, or exploring ways to make retirement more financially secure, her passion is helping families find practical solutions that provide confidence, independence, and peace of mind.

Common questions

Start with the basics

Is “reverse equity” the same as a reverse mortgage?

Reverse equity describes loan products commonly known as reverse mortgages. We use the term because the loan allows eligible homeowners to access a portion of their home equity. Product names and requirements vary, and we will explain the specific loan being considered.

Do I still own my home with a reverse equity loan?

Yes. You retain title to your home. You must continue to meet loan obligations, including paying property taxes and homeowners insurance and keeping the home in good condition.

Will I have a required monthly mortgage payment?

Most reverse equity loans do not require monthly principal and interest payments while an eligible borrower lives in the home and meets all loan obligations. Interest and fees are added to the loan balance over time.

How much can I qualify for?

The amount depends on factors such as borrower age, home value, current interest rates, existing mortgage debt, and the specific product. A conversation with our team can provide a more useful estimate.

Will I work with someone who knows Savannah?

Yes. Our professionals serve Savannah and the Coastal Empire. You will speak with a regional professional who understands Savannah homeowners, homebuyers, and businesses and can remain accessible throughout the process.

How does your consultation work?

We begin with a no-pressure conversation with a local professional. We will ask about your goals, explain relevant options, and outline next steps. You are not obligated to apply.
